Introduction
This case study highlights the successful setup of a 5G Network test lab for a prominent telecom operator. As telecom networks transition from 4G to cloud-native 5G, the operator faced challenges in evolving their legacy systems to virtualized network functions (VNF). Challenge
As the telecom operator’s products become virtualized and are delivered in an agile mode, they faced the challenge of setting up test labs to certify multi-vendor VNFs and devices before rollout into the production network. The primary issues included automating the entire test cycle, managing multiple RF bands, and integrating various data centers for testing.
Solution
Verveba Telecom proposed and implemented a unified network test automation methodology/framework to reduce the lab certification cycle. The solution included setting up three distinct test environments to address the operator’s rollout vision:
- NTI/PoC Test Environment: Demonstration of solutions by all preferred 5G OEM and ODM vendors.
- Pre-deployment Test Environment: Integration and E2E services certification of multi-OEM vendor solutions in a stable environment.
- FoA (First Office Application): Field integration post pre-deployment lab verification.
Achievements
Deconstruction and Transportation:
- Successfully deconstructed and securely transported multiple RF Chambers and network components from the original locations to the new test lab facility.
- Ensured all equipment was handled with the utmost care to prevent any damage during transit.
Reconstruction and Configuration:
- Reconstructed RF Chambers and configured them to meet specific requirements, ensuring they were ready for immediate use.
- Implemented configuration modifications to optimize performance according to the telecom operator’s standards.
Data Rack Equipment Relocation:
- Relocated data rack equipment weekly, optimizing the equipment footprint from numerous racks to a more efficient number to enhance space utilization.
- Conducted the relocation in a manner that minimized disruption to ongoing operations, maintaining operational continuity.
Operational Readiness:
- Ensured all relocated equipment was ready for power-up and operation by the end of each relocation week.
- Maintained the lab’s operational continuity, allowing for ongoing testing and certification without significant downtime.

NTI/PoC Testing:
- Preferred OEM vendors demonstrated their solutions, identifying and correcting product defects to comply with the operator’s requirements.
