End-to-End Relocation of Tier 1 Lab Equipment Across Major Cities in Texas
Introduction
Scope of work: This project involves the comprehensive relocation of sophisticated lab equipment, including custom-built RF Chambers, various radio access network equipment, and common data center racks. The relocation spans from the original facility to a state-of-the-art data center. The project covers the entire process of deconstruction, secure packing, transportation, reconstruction, and recabling of all equipment, ensuring seamless integration and functionality at the new site.
Challenge
Relocating advanced lab equipment, such as RF Chambers and extensive data racks, is a complex and challenging task. The process requires meticulous planning and execution to ensure minimal downtime and avoid any damage to sensitive equipment. Key challenges include maintaining the operational efficiency of the lab, coordinating the move across different phases, and ensuring that all equipment is reassembled and ready for immediate use in the new location.
Solution
Leveraging our extensive expertise in managing complex relocations, Verveba Telecom devised a structured plan that addressed all aspects of the move. Our team meticulously deconstructed, securely packed, transported, and rebuilt the RF Chambers and data rack equipment. By using proven methodologies and best practices in project management, we ensured that each step was performed efficiently and safely. Our comprehensive approach included detailed risk assessments, timeline management, and continuous communication with all stakeholders to avoid any delays or cost overruns.
Results
Deconstruction and Transportation:
- Our team successfully deconstructed 15 RF Chambers from the original site, meticulously packing each component to prevent damage during transit.
Reconstruction and Configuration:
- At the new data center, we expertly reconstructed 8 RF Chambers, ensuring each was assembled to meet precise specifications and functional requirements.
- The reconstruction process included making necessary configuration modifications to adapt the chambers to their new environment and intended use.
Data Rack Equipment Relocation:
- We executed the relocation of data rack equipment on a strict weekly schedule, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- By consolidating the equipment from 45 racks down to 28, we improved space utilization and operational efficiency within the new data center.
Operational Readiness
- A key objective was to ensure that all relocated equipment was ready for immediate power-up and operation at the end of each relocation week.
- Our team worked closely with onsite engineers to validate connections and perform functionality tests, ensuring seamless integration of the relocated equipment into the new facility.
